I know A LOT of people who go to VTech... its the school most kids go to from my high school. During the shooting, however. There were no Woodson fatalities; I was happy to hear that none of the people I know were hurt. (There was one girl from my school, though... she was one of four people in her German class who escaped unscathed... she was all over the news, if you recall... Erin Sheenan, the bald girl. I remember her. She has an LJ.)
However, a lot of schools in my area were affected by the attacks. Westfield High lost three alumni, including the shooter, Cho-Seung He. It's scary to know he lived only five miles away from me. Out of all thirty-three, however, there was one person I knew.
Mary Karen Read went to Annandale High School, less that two miles away from mine. She played carinet at Annandale, and was also on their winterguard squad for four years. This is how I met her. We were in All-District band together, and we saw each other at winterguard competitions. I didn't know her really well. She was friends with someone on Woodson's winterguard and I spoke to her a couple of times. I know I wasn't her best friend or anything, but I still feel upset whenever I think about her. She was in her French class at Norris Hall on April 16th, 2007. She died in room 211, along with ten other classmates and her professor. It was the room where Cho Seung-He later killed himself.
I barely knew Mary, but from what I can recall of her, she was pleasant and really nice. She was always smiling. I hope now she's in a better place... I can't even begin to describe how unfair this tragedy was. Nobody deserved it, and nobody ever should. There are some people who think Cho-Seung He deserves to be included as a victim of the massacre, but I don't think so. He wasn't a victim; he killed thirty-two people and injured many more. He makes me extremely mad. He does't deserve to be remembered.
I'm not usually so outspoken on things like this, but his paranoia and confusion are the reasons why there are thirty-three less people in this world. I can say, however, that a couple of good things came out of the shootings: a call for stricter gun laws, an increased awareness of the dangers of depression, and most importantly, it showed how a nation (and the entire world) can rebound from a tradgedy and support each other in time of need. I think that, while tragic, it brought the whole world a little closer and made us realize that we are, indeed, all Hokies.
God bless. <3

Yesterday was incredibly busy and I had tons of shit going ton. Luckily today, my geography class was canceled, so I got to sleep in. Then I had band... okay, our concert is exactly one week away and we sound TERRIBLE. Well, I don't. anyway. >_>
The other two euphoniums need to learn when there is a "p" witten underneath the music, that means it's supposed to be QUIET. They try to outplay each other so they can hear themselves, and as a result, they're overplaying and it sound shitty and horribly out of tune. Also, they need to learn how to count.
Apart from band, things are... uh... the same, pretty much. My credit cards still don't work, which is a huge pain in the ass. I have to buy a case of bottled water for the chorus party on Friday, so having money to buy them with would help. ._.
Oh, I have some good news! I'm probably going to get a good grade in Anthropology! I got a D on the first test and a C on the second test, but he added a 10% curve, which means I'll have a C and a B. Plus, we're doing this really easy in-class assignment that counts as a test grade, so I'll have an A on that! He's also counting attendance and this little project, which I'm expecting a good grade on. :D
Oh, btw. I know most of you guys won't be interested, but I found these two winterguard videos on Youtube... .__.
I think they're both so cute. :3 The University of Alabama won 4th in the Independent A class division at nationals last year with a score of 93.10. :O Waubonsie Valley Didn't go to nationals, but I saw their show on another website at a better camera angle than this one... but I still think its funny. :3

They're in Dayton, Ohio, and there are 332 units competing is six classes (Scholastic A, Independent A, Scholastic Open, Independent Open, Scholastic World, and Independent World). FYI, A = basic, Open = intemediate, and World = advanced. Also FYI, Scholastic = high school and independent = just that. They're independent. SHOCKING! :O
My high school unfortunately doesn't go to the WGI championships. D: However, they got 4th place in the Scholastic A class at our circuit championships last week with a score of 84.50. HIGHEST-SCORING HIGH SCHOOL FROM VIRGINIA, CHA-CHING. :O So, anyway, the A classes and the Open classes had their preliminary rounds tonight and I nabbed the scores and arranged them all in order because I'm anal like that. I only have the Open classes, though, because there were 134 high school in the A class and 73 independent A guards. I'm not even going to attempt to arrange those in order. >_>
EDIT: Okay, I added the Scholastic World Prelims scores, too. :O
EDIT: I just added the Independent A Semi-Final Scores. :O

Well, I had a good spring break. I went to a winterguard competition (actually, I'll be going to it later today), the National Geographic Museum, my high school's chorus concert, my high school's winterguard exhibition, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and I got to eat at a DELICIOUS Spanish restaurant in DC, and I also ate at the Cheesecake Factory and our waiter was in my old culinary arts class from junior year. XD
Five more weeks at WVU, and one week for finals... I can't wait to get out of there. :P
OH, I FORGOT! OKAY, ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS FROM HIGH SCHOOL GOES TO CNU AND SHE SAYS THAT IN THE FALL, THE WIND ENSEMBLE WILL BE GOING TO GERMANY AND IN THE SPRING, THE MIXED CHORUS WILL BE GOING TO ITALY. =DDDD
THAT'S SO COOL, I WAS PLANNING ON DOING BOTH, ANYWAY. YAY EUROPE HGDFDASLGADSJ!!!!!!! =DDDDDDDDDD

Eugh, I really don't like band lately. I don't have fun playing anymore... There's only one song on our program that I like; the other peices can burn in hell. I'm sick of rehersing them over and over and over and over and over. Also, most of the other kids in band are so incredibly loud and obnioxious. They talk all the fucking time and we could accomplish so much more if they'd just shut the hell up.
Another thing is the fact that the other two euphoniums can't play worth crap. They sound like middle schoolers, blasting through the quiet parts and messing up my rythem by coming in too early or too late and splatting the fast licks and just overall sounding like crap. They also think they're hot shit. Well, I can understand that. I mean, in Bumfuck, WV, they are hot shit. I don' like bragging, but I'm a pretty damn good euphonium player (I'm from an extremely competitive and renowned district, and I was considered to be good there), and my tuba professor here told me that if I keep it up, I could easily make it into one of the military band (hoshit, they're amazing and FUCKING HARD TO GET INTO. I think you have to go up against 300 people for one slot).
But that's not what Iwant. I just want to play and have fun, which isn't what I'm having right now.
I feel really bad for not having a good time, but it's the truth. It would be a lot more fun if:
1. People in class would shut the fuck up.
2. We played more interesting, challenging, music and we didn't have to baby our way through because people can't play it.
3. The other two euphoniums would go away, or at least learn how to tune.
4. I were in Wind Symphony, which actually sounds good. ( I should have gotten a fair audition, anyway)
5. Sam Hazo would drop dead. (He's a famous-hot-shot composer. I've met him twice and he's the most stuck-up asshole ever. All his peices suck and sound the same, and since he's buddies with my band director, we always have to include at least one in our program.)
6. My band directors actually expose us to different types of musical styles, not just shitty modern fucktard peices.
7. My friends from high school were here. Everyone here is... I dunno. Such band nerds that they're humping their instruments. In high school, my friends and I were kind of band nerdy, but we actually talked about stuff besides music. Everyone here is such a band nerd they tell each other music jokes. "HOW DO YOU MAKE A TROMBONE SOUND LIKE A FRENCH HORN? STICK YOUR HAND IN THE BELL AND PLAY A LOT OF WRONG NOTES LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOL......" If I hear this one more time, I'm going to lose it. (Seriously, too. That's all they talk about.)
Yeah. That's all. Band isn't that fun anymore. I have it tomorrow and I'd much rather be in my Geography class because at least in there, people are quiet, respectful, and we learn really interesting things. I feel so guilty because I used to love band, but I don't think it's as much fun in college. Maybe it's WVU, I dunno. I just hope I have fun again wherever I end up.
Could I get some feedback on this? I'm not going to "friend" this one, so feel free to leave comments anonymously. Seriously, feel free to say anything; I just really want to know what everyone thinks of me. <3
